I had thought about getting a 4 HH for a while, but I’ve really gotten used to having that B string, and as I play finger style or pick, a 4 banger doesn’t really have any bonuses for me in terms of string spacing for slap. I currently have a Stingray 5H Alnico … It took me a good while to get used to the difference of where my right hand ended up on a Bongo vs a Stingray. Finally I just accepted that my Bongo is more suited for songs that have wanky lines while my Ray is more suited for slappy ones. I guess like 1-2 months maybe? Marignane, France. Apr 1, 2014. #1. Hi, I’ve got a MusicMan Stingray. She is set-up. (no fret buzz) but the strings are very high. Neck relief : I press the 1st fret and the 15th fret on the E string and the gap is at the 7th fret : 0.010 inch (0.25mm). No fret buzz on the high frets and low frets. The intonation is very good. I found out that it’s really important to make small adjustments on the rod and then let the bass « relax » for a day to let the Tension of the neck to adjust. Then measure and adjust it again. As I Play now 105′ strings it seems that 2.4mm on the 12th fret are not possible to get. I’m now at 2.6mm and I’m fine with it. Additionally, the EBMM Sterling has a slimmer and narrower neck, like a Stingray 5 neck but made for a 4-string. The Stingray 4 on the other hand has a thicker and wider neck profile, which, while comfortable in its own way, will feel nothing like your Stingray 5. Also, the EBMM Sterling has 22 frets, like the SR5. It is a 1992 Stingray I think.
