Hi all, I have a question to ask you. Let’s see. What is correct to say in this sentence? 1-You have to run faster if you want to get on time. 2-You have to run more fast if you want to get on time. If we analyse the sentence, fast is here acting as an adverb because it is describing how we… Now, if you go to a soul food/Southern cooking restaurant (not fast food), the sides are one of the main draws. They aren’t side orders*, they are side dishes. A standard menu would include some type of meat dish and one, two or three sides. [black-eyed peas, fried okra, hush puppies, cole slaw, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, etc.] So my liver metabolizes caffeine three times slower than a fast metabolizer. Often restaurants will do happy hour deals where the food is two or three times cheaper than it is during the regular hours. These are examples I found with « 3 times slower/cheaper ». However, I didn’t find any with « 3 times as slow/cheap » or « a third as fast/expensive … Speed is different. Compare Carl Sagan (in Contact): « The speed of light is fast, but it’s not infinitely fast. » There are many examples (technical and otherwise), e.g. « if your download speed is fast enough, you can download movies in a matter of minutes. » However, as I said, it sometimes sounds wrong stylistically. 1.
